I am in the most serene mood that I can ever remember being in. I am very very single. I am THRILLED with every aspect of my life. After 3 very painful years, I am finally done with my thesis, my sister is getting married soon and then I'm gonna achieve a life dream of traveling to South-East Asia.. phew.. life has never been so full of possibilities before.
I was just trying to sleep and reflecting on what drives my dreams. Why do I dream of doing certain things? I can't say about career goals and personal goals, but my travel goals have definitely been shaped by the books I read as a child. I still remember that as I stepped into London the first time, I was immediately expecting horsed carriages and cobblestone roads. (I did see a horsed carriage in Hyde Park which was half-satisfying). Enid Blyton has always made me crave small English villages with very short houses, wooden fences, mailboxes, and then small little bakeries. I still haven't had a chance to explore that yet, but I know that they look just like I imagine them to be. While I haven't read a lot of books based in Singapore, I can't wait to go to Cambodia and Vietnam and relive everything that I've imagined. While I know it might not be possible in this trip, I am still excited about wherever this trip will take me.
The biggest gift that the California trip has given me is this absolute thrill of even traveling alone. Making friends is never as easy as when you're reading a book in a coffee shop or walking by the beach alone. The absolute best part of the trip was the freedom to have no plan at all. I got a ride to LA spontaneously and decided to go to LA. If I had my paperwork with me, I was definitely going to go to Tijuana, Mexico. I can't wait to do the same in Singapore.
